⚡️Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has declared that he wants early elections in the state -instead of the middle of next year, it could be held anytime in the next six months. His party, he said, would nominate candidates by September.

⚡️The Chief Minister also spoke of the Federal Front being the “only answer” – rebutting Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s election pitch that lumped him together with the NDA. And he underscored that the party will go it alone in the elections – contradicting rumours of the party allying with the BJP.

⚡️Party general secretary K Anbazhagan said, “A condolence resolution will be adopted and other than that, there is nothing on the agenda now… a date for holding the general council meet may be considered and announced.”

⚡️It may be recalled that Stalin was elevated as DMK working president last January.

⚡️Chennai: M Karunanidhi used the medium of films and his command over Tamil language to reach out to the people and promote the Dravidian ideology, according to two books related to the late DMK patriarch.

⚡️”Tamil was his ‘uyir moochu’ (life breath) in more ways than one. It dominated his politics and his political career. Over time, as the first-generation leaders of the Dravidian movement passed away, Karunanidhi attempted to take over the mantle of the ‘protector’ of Tamils worldwide,” the book “Karunanidhi: A Life in Politics” by journalist Sandhya Ravishankar says.

⚡️Karunanidhi discovered early that his gift was language. Wit, clarity of thought and a firm grasp over Tamil history dominated his writing – whether as editor of “Maanava Nesan” (Friend of Students), a handwritten newsletter started by him during those days in school, or as the founder of DMK organ “Murasoli” (Drum roll), or as contributor to “Dravida Naadu” (Dravidian Land), a magazine started by Annadurai.

⚡️Will a succession war erupt in the DMK again, or will MK Stalin, whom M Karunanidhi anointed his successor in his lifetime, continue to hold sway over the party?

⚡️This is the question the DMK workers are asking themselves as they prepare for life in the party after the death of their ‘Thalaivar’ (leader) who held a strong grip over the organisation for half-a-century as its president.

⚡️MK Alagiri and MK Stalin, the two sons of the DMK doyen, have been at loggerheads for years now before the former was expelled from the party in 2014, after a stint as a union minister in the UPA government.

⚡️Before his expulsion at the height of his succession battle with the younger sibling, Alagiri, known for his mercurial temper, had famously questioned if the DMK was a “mutt” where the pontiff could anoint his successor, an apparent reference to their father.

⚡️If you ask me today what the secret to his long life was, it was his discipline. He used to go for his morning walks, and even practiced yoga. While he did smoke when he was young, he gave it up later on. Kalaignar always ate what the doctors told him to and has controlled food habits that include a diet of his favourite fish.

⚡️The state unit of the BJP has appealed to the Kolkata Police to grant permission to fly a drone for mass surveillance during party president Amit Shah’s rally in the city on August 11. The saffron party, which has become wary after a tent collapsed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Midnapore rally in June, also appealed to the police to allow the use of walkie-talkies during Saturday’s rally.

⚡️Over 90 people were injured on June 16 after a section of a tent caved in during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at a public rally in West Bengal’s Midnapore. “We have applied for permission from the Kolkata Police for using one drone during Amit Shahji’s rally on Saturday. Drones will help us in keeping an eye on the proceedings in and around the rally area. This is merely for security reasons,” West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said.
