⚡️Chennai: About 1.10 lakh eligible students have enrolled themselves for getting admission to various engineering courses while a little over 1.7 lakh engineering seats are available at as many as 509 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. According to sources from Anna University, the online counselling will be conducted in five rounds. In each round, about 10,000 candidates are expected to participate in the online counselling, which is also conducted at student’s facilitation centres established across all districts of the State.

⚡️As the first round of counselling is nearing completion, only about 8,000 candidates have made the payment despite about 10,000 candidates figuring in the merit list. A senior professor from Anna University said even among the registered candidates, not all of them would join engineering courses, as many students have already opted out after getting through medical counselling. “In addition, many candidates also prefer non-engineering courses”, he added.

⚡️ISLAMABAD: A European Union team of election observers said on Friday that Pakistan’s general elections this week were eclipsed by “restrictions” on freedom of expression and an “unequal” opportunity for candidates to campaign.

⚡️In its preliminary assessment of the July 25 elections, the EU Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) said the media outlets and journalists suffered from restrictions which resulted in self-censorship.

⚡️”The European Union Election Observation Mission to Pakistan has concluded that positive changes to the legal framework were overshadowed by restrictions on freedom of expression and an unequal opportunity to campaign,” it said while delivering its preliminary assessment at a press conference here.

⚡️Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi is being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection, according to a health bulletin issued by Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Thursday, which marked 49 years of the leader taking charge as the party chief. As per the statement, which followed a slight decline in Karunanidhi’s health condition, the 94-year-old is being monitored round the clock by a team of medical experts at his residence.
