⚡️Facing flak from various quarters for neglecting North Karnataka in his recent budget, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday sought to alleviate the anguish of the people in this region by promising to grant Belagavi city the status of second capital . He also promised to shift some government departments to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS), the secretariat building in Belagavi.
⚡️Perhaps not, as the new era of online streaming platforms and eager reception to several Tamil web-series in recent times have shown. Now, aspirants to the field have a plethora of options at their disposal to make inroads – in the way they want to. While big players like Netflix and Amazon Prime continue to encourage binge-watching among audience, several other websites like Viu, Hotstar, Zee5, Voot and so on also host original, witty and bold Tamil content that the big screen should be yearning for.
⚡️Take for instance, Kallachirippu on Zee5, presented by Rajinikanth’s next director Karthik Subbaraj, that is creating a flutter on social media for its imaginative storyline around the accidental killing of a husband by his wife; and her consequent attempts to deal with it. While being known for his experimental work, the fact that an A-list filmmaker like Subbaraj is delving into the medium, speaks volumes about the platform’s impact.
⚡️The man allegedly at the heart of Muzaffarpur’s house of horrors — a children’s shelter where more than 30 girls were tortured and sexually abused over a period of 4 years — was seen grinning hugely while being led away by the police over the week-end. Brajesh Thakur, the 50-year-old politically connected owner of the shelter home in Bihar, was arrested on Saturday after the girls accused him of systematic rape, abuse and torture.
⚡️Before he launched his party Makkal Needhi Maiam earlier this year, Kamal Haasan, 63 had a “secret” meeting with Tamil cinema’s other mega star and politician-in-waiting, Rajinikanth, 67. At this meeting, they decided to “maintain dignity” if they politically find themselves in opposite camps. But if they end up on the same side, wouldn’t they be unbeatable, like fictional superhero group, Avengers?
⚡️BJP PRESIDENT Amit Shah framed the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as a filter to keep out “illegal” Bangla migrants — saying “(No citizen of India has any reason to be concerned).”
⚡️On the ground, however, it’s not so simple.
⚡️In a state where history and geography have created multiple identities intertwined over the years, the NRC has cleaved open more than one fault line: cutting across ethnicity, language, religion. Over 40 lakh — Hindu and Muslim, young and old, rural and urban — find themselves among the uncounted.

⚡️Chennai: Belying rumours that he might be discharged in 48 hours, the hospital on Tuesday revealed the severity of deterioration in Karunanidhi’s health condition by stating that he would require extended period of hospitalisation due to “overall decline” in his general health.
⚡️“Although there has been resolution of the condition which led to his hospital admission, an extended period of hospitalisation will be necessary due to age related overall decline in his general health, altered liver function and haematological parameters,” said an elaborate health bulletin released at 6.30 pm by Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director of Kauvery hospital.
⚡️Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, who is undergoing treatment at Kauvery hospital in Chennai. The 94-year-old leader was admitted in the hospital on the intervening night of July 27-28 after a drop in blood pressure.

⚡️NEW DELHI: The furore over Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) list got intense on Tuesday, with both the government and opposition debating the motives and objectives of the register. The draft NRC released by the Assam government yesterday puts as many as 40 lakh people in the state in danger of losing their voting rights.
⚡️West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee today warned that the list will divide the people and create a civil war-like situation in the country.
⚡️”They are trying to divide people. There will be bloodbath and civil war in the country,” she was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
⚡️BJP president Amit Shah retorted by saying that the TMC chief is “dangerously trying to mislead” the people of the country.
⚡️Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took a jibe at the Congress over the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha against his government, saying he was thankful to the party as it allowed him to expose the opposition’s hollowness.
⚡️In the first BJP parliamentary party meeting in the ongoing Monsoon Session, Modi said the motion brought by the opposition underscored its political immaturity and lack of understanding and substance, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters.
⚡️Muzaffarpur: The girls at a state-run shelter in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur – where a sexual exploitation racket was detected earlier this month were sedated, raped, beaten up and threatened — the cycle repeated night after night, the survivors have revealed. The girls – all below the age of 18 – alleged that they were given “keede maarne ki dawa” (drugs) which made them unconscious. They always woke up naked and in pain, they said.
⚡️All the girls, whose medical reports have confirmed rape, have named Muzaffarpur Child Protection Officer Ravi Kumar Roshan and Brajesh Thakur in their statements before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Brajesh Thakur, who ran the NGO, and Mr Roshan have both been arrested.
